THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government, on Monday, took back its decision to file an affidavit in the Supreme Court over the linking of Aadhar and cooking gas subsidy.
The government changed its stand after it learned that the affidavit was prepared, keeping the cabinet out of the loop.
The affidavit was prepared by IT department officials but it was not discussed in the cabinet. The government had drawn criticism from several quarters for first criticising the Aadhar-LPG linkage, and then coming forward to endorse it.
It was following this that Industries Minister Kunhalikutty, who is also in charge of IT department, stepped in. The minister instructed the Accounts General to take further steps only after the cabinet discussed the affidavit. The advocate representing the Kerala government was also informed about the matter.
The government was supposed to inform the Supreme Court that Aadhar card would ensure that only eligible persons got the subsidy. It would do away with middlemen and the possibility of people misusing documents for admission in schools.
