EKM Roads, no-parking zones to be reclassified

The Zonal Transport Authority (ZTA) on Wednesday gave its nod for the proposal submitted by traffic police authorities on the re-categorisation of one-way roads and no- parking zones in the city. However, the ZTA instructed the police to implement the regulations only after placing proper sign boards and markings at these places.

The one-way roads as per the reclassification include Veekshanam Road (connecting MG Road and Chittoor Road), Jew Street Road (from Chittoor Road Junction to MG Road), Chathyathu Cross Road to Vaduthala Don Bosco Junction and Sreekandathu Road (from Old Thevara Road to MG Road).

The RTA has also given approval for converting the following areas into no-parking zones: Both sides of old railway station, IS Press Road and St Alberts Road, the traffic island circle in front of the Police Club, from Pachalam market to the railway crossing on Chittoor Road and the stretch of NH between Oberon Mall and Padivattam.

The new regulations also impose restrictions on taking U-turn at Padma Junction, Shenoy’s Junction, Jose Junction, Pharmacy Junction on Banerjee Road, Town Hall Junction, Manorama Junction and Valanjambalam Junction
