Transfer of CBI officials likely to hamper probe

KOCHI: With the transfer of the two CBI officials C Unnikrishnan Nair and KK Rajan to other states, the investigation into the suicide case of CBI ASP Haridath is facing impediments. The two officers were transferred after their names were found in the suicide note of the late officer.
The detailed interrogation of both the officers are yet to be conducted and a transfer at this juncture will hamper the investigation, which is in its initial stages.
According to sources in the Crime Branch, the transferred officials are key persons to be  interrogated. “The relatives of Haridath had raised many allegations against these officers. So there is a need for detailed interrogation of the two. Though we have spoken to both the officials, a detailed interrogation has not yet taken place. It is learnt from the CBI officials that both the officials have been transferred to CBI units in Kolkata and Guwahati respectively. Both will leave the state soon.
Given this, further questioning will have to be conducted over telephone or will entail travel to the far flung north-east. This would certainly slow down the investigation,” Crime Branch sources said and added that they were not informed about the transfer.
“It would have been better if the CBI had informed us that the two officials would be transferred. The liaison officer has just been appointed and investigation is in the initial stages. We want both the officials to be present in the state for further questioning,” officials in the investigation team said.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch is planning to  complete the initial interrogation of the CBI officials within two weeks. “The interrogation of the officials will begin next week and we hope to finish it within two weeks,” Crime Branch sources said.
