Thousands throng Guruvayur Temple on Vishu


GURUVAYUR: Around 50,000 devotees visited Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple for Vishukkani darsan on Saturday. Vishukkani darsan was held at the temple from 2.30 am to 3.30 am. The kani was arranged at the Mukhamandapam of the Sreelakam.
Kani with items like kani konna, rice, betel nuts and gold coins were displayed in front of the deity. Rituals, including Kazhcha Seeveli and Vilakkinezhunnellipu will be held during the day.
After the Athaazha Pooja and Thrippuka on Friday, the arrangements for Vishukkani were started by the Keezhsanthis of the temple.
In the morning and evening of Vishu, there will be Kazhcha Siveli accompanied by melam. Mattannur Sankarankutty will lead the melam in the evening.
The Melpathur Auditorium will reverberate with musical concerts by Dakshinamoorty and T S Radhakrishnan.  It is believed that the fortunes for the coming year depend on the Vishukkani. Hence, thousands throng to the Guruvayur temple to have Vishu darsan. Crowds stay overnight inside the courtyard of the temple and have darsan when the door is opened at 2.30 am. Special queue system was arranged for darsan  after the Vishukkani. Full course Vishu sadya (feast) for over 10,000 devotees will be served. Strict traffic regulations have been put in place on account of Vishukkani darsan.
