SC approval for reopening of Villapilsala plant

Tuesday, April 17, 2012: The Supreme Court has given permission to reopen the Villapillsala waste treatment plan and start functioning. The plea filed by the panchayat against the HC order was dismissed by the SC.
The SC had also set conditions to reopen the Villapilsala plant. The plant could treat waste of up to 90 metric tonnes only.
Earlier, the HC too had ordered to reopen the plant. But due to the protest by a group of agitating workers, the plant was unable to function. Infact a large contingent of women had blocked the vehicle the other day when it reached to dispose off the waste.
Urban Affairs Development minister Manjalamkuzhy Ali informed that an emergency meeting will be convened to take stock of the situation after the SC order. The minister also added that Thiruvananthapuram mayor and secretaries will take part in the meeting.
