Police patrolling intensified in Wagamon

The security arrangements have been intensified in the tourism spot of Wagamon in the wake of the recent incidents of attacks on tourists by anti-social elements.

District Superintendent of Police George, Varghese told The Hindu on Wednesday that six police officials from Idukki armed reserve camps have been deputed in Wagamon in addition to the patrolling in the area. This is in addition to the daily monitoring of the Peerumade police. The Circle Inspector of police will provide daily monitoring report and the civil police officers from Peerumade police station routinely patrol the area.

A security staff of the District Tourism Promotion council and civil police officer were recently attacked by anti-social elements at Wagamon. Tourists from Thrissur were attacked at Kolahalamedu near Wagamon and were robbed of a gold chain last month. A clash between locals and tourists was reported on Sunday. Mr. Varghese said that if the tourist faced any problems with the anti-social elements, they could immediately report to the police.
