Pannyan Raveendran to become CPI State Secretary

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Pannyan Raveendran has been elected as the new State Secretary of Communist Party of India (CPI) on Monday. The decision was taken at the party’s state council meeting convened here.

Though AITUC General Secretary Kanam Rajendran and Parliamentary Party leader C. Divakaran (former minister) were considered at first, no consensus was formed at the meeting. It was, therefore, decided to have a person other than these two. Pannyan Raveendran was thus elected as the State Secretary. Party leader K.E. Ismail emphasized that Pannyan Raveendran was unanimously elected.

C.N. Chandran and Prakash Babu will become Assistant Secretaries. Nine members including Veliyam Bhargavan were elected as Secretariat members.

The new State Secretary was elected as the post was vacant following the death of C.K. Chandrappan.

After the announcement, Pannyan Raveendran told media persons that the party has given him a great responsibility and that he would work for strengthening the party and the Left Democratic Front (LDF). He added that he would complete those procedures started by the former State Secretary C.K. Chandrappan.
