Ottapalam Municipality Vice-Chairman Jaleel resigns

Monday, April 23, 2012: Ottapalam Municipality Vice-Chairman Jaleel resigned from the post, here on Monday. The resignation comes in the wake of no-confidence motion moved by the CPI (M) members earlier.
The ruling UDF led by the Congress lost power in Ottapalam Municipality when the no-confidence motion brought against it by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was passed with 21 votes in the Council of 36 members on Saturday.
The UDF members were directed to abstain from voting but three Congress members voted with the CPI (M) in support of the no-confidence motion against the Front.
The no-confidence motion was also supported by two councillors of the four-member group of the BJP. Though the Congress issued a whip to abstain three of them, who were opposed to Congress Chairperson Rani Jose voted against the UDF. The UDF was in minority in the council as it had the support of only 16 members.
