Man loses right palm, finger in freak accident

ADIMALI: In a freak accident, a 45-year-old worker, Thokkumbel Thomas, lost his right palm and one finger of the left hand while cleaning a concrete mixer here on Wednesday. The incident occurred when the victim was cleaning the machine after the concreting work of building.
While cleaning the mixer machine, Thomas’s hand got stuck in it.
A crane had to be brought to the site to prevent further damage to the victim’s hand, police said.
The presence of mind displayed by Mannankala resident Kallarakkal Kareem helped in averting a major tragedy, police said.
A team of doctors arrived at the spot from the taluk hospital to provide medical support.
Adimali SI C R Pramod led the operation to rescue Poulose, in which headload workers, taxi drivers and local residents took part.
Thomas was taken to the Specialists Hospital for treatment.
He is to undergo surgery for the rejoining of the his palm and the finger.
