'Initial works on Technical University began'


ALAPPUZHA: Education minister Abdu Rabb said on Thursday that the State Government had initiated steps to open a technical university in the state.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new block at the Women’s Polytechnic in Kayamkulam, he said: “In the preliminary stage, all engineering colleges in the state will be affiliated to the university.
Later, the polytechnic institutes will follow suit.” Earlier, Union Minister of State for Power K C Venugopal laid the foundation stone for the building which will be constructed with the assistance of the Kayakulam National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
The NTPC has spent `2.3 crore for the construction of the two-storey building at Women’s Polytechnic for conducting various training courses under the State and Central Governments.
Kayamkulam municipal chairman P K Kochukunju presided over the function.
NTPC general manager A P Trivedi, Technical Education joint director N Santhakumar and Polytechnic principal V N Leela spoke on the occasion.
