Hi-tech traffic gadget to monitor lawbreakers

KOCHI: If you believe you can evade the speed tracer and interceptor of Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) and police, here is another advanced equipment, which will detect all kinds of traffic violation on roads.
The Department has launched a ‘No Contact Enforcement System Vehicle’, equipped with speed tracker, alchometer, hi-tech cameras, pollution checking systems, sound checking system and powerful radars. The MVD in all the districts will be equipped with such vehicles in the coming days.
“The vehicle detects traffic violation in the area using radar system. This is one of the most modern equipment available with the department now,” Regional Transport Officer T J Thomas said.
The system is more advanced than the existing interceptor as it has all the equipment to detect traffic violations, he said.
The transport official said the vehicle would have an advanced alchometer imported from Germany. “We do not have to keep the meter near the mouth of the driver in this alchometer. While talking itself, the machine would detect if the driver has drunk or not. Moreover, the exact quantity of alcohol in the blood could be detected through this advanced system. If the machine shows more than 30 mg in the blood of the driver, then it is an offence,” an official in the Motor Vehicles Department said.
The pollution checking will also be intensified with the implementation of the new system. “Earlier, we only conducted the checking of the pollution certificate. Usually the certificates won’t show the exact emission of the vehicle. But now we can conduct the pollution checking directly. Besides, sound pollution could also be checked, Thomas said.
