Handcuffed youth flees from police station


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A youth accused in several criminal cases escaped with his handcuffs from  Kazhakkoottam police station late on Sunday night. Ratheesh, 30, of Menamkulam, near Kazhakkoottam, was arrested on Sunday night on the charge of attacking a group of people at Kadinamkulam. According to the police, Ratheesh, after being arrested, was brought to the police station around 10.30 pm.
 Sometime later, he started banging his head against the wall of the lockup. This resulted in a head injury and blood started gushing out of the wound. The police personnel brought Ratheesh out of the lockup.
 “When the police personnel were trying to take him to hospital, he fled,” said C Binukumar, Circle Inspector, Kazhakkoottam.
 Though the police launched an intense search,  Ratheesh could not be traced.
 Police said that Ratheesh was a history-sheeter having several cases, including murder, pending against him in various stations.
