KOCHI: A 15-year-old girl drowned in the Periyar river in Perumbavoor on Friday. The girl, Haripriya, was on a five-day vacation camp at the Managalabharati Ashram in Thottuva, Perumbavoor. The incident took place around 6.30 am when the girls in the ashram went for a bath in the river.
The girl was caught in the river current and though her friends, sand labourers and others in the area tried to rescue the child, she died before reaching the hospital in Perumbavoor.
Haripriya is the daughter of Mohanan Velankudi, Cheranalloor.
