THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Treasuries director D Vijayalakshmi will submit a report on further action to be taken in the fake stamp paper issue after a detailed investigation. Finance and Law Minister K M Mani entrusted her with this task in an order issued here on Friday. The director would also investigate if there are any similar cases in other parts of the state as well through a special inspection.
Meanwhile, the police team investigating the case has submitted the First Information Report in Chief Judicial Magistrate Court here, with a senior vendor, 81-year-old K S Sreedharan Nair as the first accused. The police have slapped charges of forgery and cheating on him.

The FIR states that fake stamp papers submitted as early as 2009 had been detected during the check. The authorities had detected 37 more cases in which fake stamp papers were submitted even as the verification of stamp papers submitted for bond execution was proceeding in the District Court here. The stamp papers have been produced before the five sub courts in the district court complex where it is subjected to verification.
The police had also identified 101 more cases under the five civil courts in the district where fake stamp papers had been submitted, the other day.  According to KS Vimal, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sanghumugham, in charge of the police investigation, the accused Sreedharan Nair is absconding.
Sreedharan Nair, a senior vendor, had been doing business at the Vanchiyoor Court complex for nearly four decades. “The preliminary evidences are against him and only a detailed investigation would prove his role,” the Assistant Commissioner told Express.
The investigation team will sent the stamp papers received from the court authorities as sample to the State Treasuries Department for examination. The names of the purchasers would be taken from the register of the Treasuries with the help of the serial number of the stamp paper, said the officer.
The report submitted by the Vanchiyoor Sub Inspector S Suresh Babu stated that the act had caused a huge loss to the exchequer and helped the accused gain monetary benefits.
In a move to prevent the use of fake stamp papers and make the registration process more transparent and to prevent the circulation of non-judicial stamp papers, the Finance Minister had announced the other day that the State Government would introduce e-stamping within six months.
The Minister said that the e-stamping project announced in the 2012-13 state budget would bring down revenue loss and reduce the time taken for registration.
According to him a project for creating a statewide computer network for sub-registrar offices was also under consideration.
