DySP in CBI custody

KOCHI: Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate S Santhosh Kumar remanded in CBI custody for two days Crime Branch NRI Cell Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) N Abdul Rashid arrested in connection with an alleged attack on V B Unnithan, reporter, Mathrubhumi , Kollam. Unnithan was allegedly attacked following his reports on an unholy nexus between high-ranking police officers and goons in Kollam. In its remand report, the CBI alleged that the police officer, along with other accused, had hatched a conspiracy to murder Unnithan.

He, along with the arrested former Crime Brach Dy.SP Santhosh Nair, had entrusted the task of murdering Unnithan to ‘Container' Santhosh, a contract killer, who in turn assigned it to ‘Happy' Rajesh. The CBI said his custody was essential to conduct further probe into the involvement of other accused and to recover the weapons used for the attack. When he was produced before the court, the accused complained that CBI officers had assaulted him. He told the court that he was taken to a homoeo doctor, whom the CBI officers pressured to give a certificate to the effect that there were no external wounds in his body. The bail petition of the accused police officer will be taken up for hearing on April 18.
