KOCHI: Crime Branch DySP Abdul Rasheed, a key suspect in the Unnithan murder attempt case, was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday. He was later shifted to the Thrissur Medical College from the Ernakulam District Jail following health problems.
Chief Judicial Magistrate S Santhosh Kumar rejected the bail petition moved by Abdul Rasheed and remanded him. In the order, the CJM said that Abdul Rasheed could not be granted bail as the investigation was still on and further interrogation was required.
Dramatic scenes were unveiled at the Chief Judicial Magistrate court when Abdul Rasheed was brought to the court in the morning. He fainted in front of the court building. In the court, he submitted that the CBI officials had brutally tortured him. He said that officials kicked him several times and did not even provide him medical aid. Whereas, the CBI said that Abdul Rasheed behaved arrogantly with the investigation officers during interrogation and hence can be sent to judicial custody.
The CBI submitted the medical report of the test conducted on Tuesday morning before the Chief Magistrate. The report suggested that he had no injuries and the person was healthy.
After the bail petition was denied, Abdul Rasheed fainted at the corridor of the CJM court. With the help of CBI officials, he was taken to Ernakulam District Jail, Kakkanad. According to jail authorities, he was unconscious when brought to the jail. Since the Magistrate had ordered medical aid, the jail officials took him to district hospital, from where he was taken to Thrissur Medical College.
