THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI parliamentary party leader C Divakaran alleged that there was rampant corruption behind the State Government decision to stop kerosene distribution. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, he demanded a Vigilance inquiry into the ‘hoarding’ of kerosene as it was available in the black market for Rs 80 per litre, when the price under the public distribution system was only Rs 14.50 per litre.
He asked the State Government to revoke the decision to end kerosene distribution. Kerala which is a consumer state has been badly affected by the Central Government policy of cutting kerosene supply which in turn had only helped black marketeers, he said.
NO RIFT IN PARTY
Divakaran denied reports of a rift in the CPI following the selection of Pannian Ravindran as the party state secretary. “Only one name came up for the post of secretaryship. No other name including mine was there. All the media reports about a factional fight in the state council were the imagination of the reporters. They are free to write anything”, he said.
When reporters reminded him that even the state secretary had told in public that "some unfortunate things had occurred in the state council,’’ Divakaran clarified that the secretary might have hinted something other than the selection of the secretary.
However, he added that it was natural for different names to crop up during an election.
