CPM not behind newspaper agents' strike, says Pinarayi

KOZHIKODE: The CPI (M) Sunday distanced itself from the on-going indefinite strike by a section of newspaper agents in the state. Talking to newspersons here, party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said 'we have nothing to do' with the more than two week strike demanding, among others, commission hike to 50 per cent.

The strike was being spearheaded by the union of the agents and newspaper distributors, he said, adding probably they might be affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). He said if the striking union attempted to prevent distribution of Deshabimani, organ of the party, CPI (M) members would take over the job. On a question to mediate in the issue, he said the party cannot interfere in the agitation launched by the agents/workers.
