KOCHI: A young couple who were found to be physically abusing a three-year-old child were arrested by the Mattancherry Police on Sunday. A case has been registered under Section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
The man, identified as Anoop Krishna, 24, was living with the child’s mother Smitha, 23, at a rental home in Chekkamaadom in Mattancherry, for the past three months.
According to the police, the duo had moved to the house in Ernakulam after living together in Thiruvananthapuram for the past three years. They will be produced before the Juvenile Court 2 on Monday. The child, Aditya, has been moved to the Nirmala Sisubhavan in Kochi.
The arrest took place based on the complaints filed by the local councillor and residents of the area, stating that they would hear the child’s wails everyday from the house.
Upon investigation, the police found that there were deep bruises on the child’s body.
