Chennai kid wins chess champ title


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Competing with chess players of various age groups, Chennai boy Shiva Mahadevan emerged the winner at the fourth All-India Fide Open Chess Championship organised by Anand Chess Academy here.
As many as 208 chess players from 10 states participated in the event. There was no age bar and players aged even 80 were part of the event.
Shiva Mahadevan, the winner, is just 11 years old. The prize money of Rs 80,000 and trophy were given to the champion. Shiva Mahadevan is a student of Velammal Vidyalaya in Chennai.
The others in the top ten are, Paramasivan, Madhusudhanan K R, Arjun K, Dhanesh P M, C Halsagar, Sathya Giri V, D Bosco, Kathiravan and Anjana Krishna S.
