Chandy rejigs portfolios, Thiruvanchoor gets home

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After inducting two more ministers Thursday morning, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy divested the crucial home portfolio to senior party colleague Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.


Briefing newspersons after a special cabinet meeting convened here after the swearing-in ceremony of IUML Leader Manjalamkuzhi Ali and Kerala Congress (Jacob) Leader Anoop Jacob, the Chief Minister said, Adoor Prakash would be the new Revenue Minister. While V S Sivakumar got the health portfolio, Aryadan Muhammed has been given the additional charge of Transport Department.


The newly sworn-in Minister Anoop got Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Registration, the same portfolio held by his father T M Jacob whose death resulted in the by-election in which Anoop won the Piravom seat.


Ali, who was inducted as the fifth Minister of the Indian Union Muslim League, was given the portfolios of Urban Affairs, Town Planning, Development Authority and Minority Welfare. The Chief Minister said, there were other minor changes in the portfolios of other Ministers which would be notified soon.
