Bike rider killed; wfe, kid injured

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A bike rider who was travelling along with his wife and child was killed in an accident that took place at Aruvikkara near here on Sunday morning. The two-wheeler, on which the family was riding, was hit by a tanker lorry travelling in the same direction, resulting in the death of Baiju, 29, of Veliyannur, Vellanad.
The incident occurred around 10 am at Vattakkulam, Aruvikkara. Baiju died on way to hospital. His wife Beena and their two-year-old daughter Archana have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital here.
Baiju worked as an electrician on temporary basis in a government department.
The driver of the tanker lorry, Suraj, 25, of Nedumangad and the vehicle have been taken into custody by the police. According to them, the family was returning home from church after morning prayers.  “We cannot yet confirm the exact reason for the accident. Both the vehicles were travelling in the same direction. The lorry was going up a slope and therefore was at a low speed. The bike rider might have tried to overtake the lorry and hit it on the back or on the side,” said Honey, sub-inspector, Aruvikkara.
Baiju’s body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem.
