Bid to kidnap girl from HC premises

KOCHI: The police arrested a person for attempting to kidnap a girl from the High Court premises on Friday. According to the police, the girl, a Hindu by birth, had converted herself to Islam and is pursuing a course on Islamic teachings in Kozhikode. The police took the kidnapper said to be an RSS activist, and the girl into custody. A case has been registered in this regard.
According to police, Nimmy, 25, a native of Ochira in Kollam, had left home on March 28 to join an Islamic institute in Kozhikode. Later, she embraced Islam and became Amina.
The father of the girl, Karthikeyan, had filed a habeas corpus petition before the Kerala High Court against the institute. On Friday, the High Court disposed of the petition and allowed the girl to continue her religious studies.
When ‘Amina’ was coming out of the court, a person named Sarath kidnapped her in a vehicle from the court premises. The advocate of the girl informed the police and the vehicle was intercepted at Kaloor junction.
The police are interrogating Sarath  to know any involvement of her parents in the kidnapping.
Earlier, the girl submitted before the court that she would return home after completing the course next month. She submitted that no one had forced her to change her religion and that she had done on her own.
Karthikeyan had alleged that his daughter who did her PG from MSM College in Kayamkulam, run by Muslim management, was lured into Islam by her friends.
She was given religious texts and CDs during her study in the college, he said.
