Bickering in Congress over IUML’s cabinet berth demand

Tuesday, April 03, 2012: The internal strife inside the Congress party has become more intense over the Indian Union Muslim League’s (IUML) demand for an additional ministerial berth in the Oommen Chandy cabinet.
The Congress (I) group has opposed the Muslim League’s demand for a fifth cabinet berth during the KPCC meeting held here on Tuesday. The KPCC meeting has also discussed on the strategies to be formulated ahead of the Neyyattinkara by-election that was necessitated by the resignation of R Selvaraj, CPM MLA.
IUML had been pressing for the fifth ministerial post ever since the UDF government assumed office last year.
