8.9 quake hits Indonesia, tremors felt in Kerala,tsunami warning


JAKARTA: A massive earthquake has hit Indonesia. Indonesia's geophysical agency has reported an earthquake of 8.9 on Richter scale off Aceh, and has issued tsunami warning to 28 countries.


Mild tremors were felt in some parts of Kerala, Guwahati, Chennai and Kolkata.


The quake was felt in Kerala at 2.10 pm. It was felt mostly in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kochi, Kottayam and Kozhikode districts. The tremors were felt in Panampilly Nagar in Kochi, M G Road and Kaloor. Cracks were noticed in the glass panes of some buildings in Kochi. Reports say the tremor lasted for five seconds. Employees of InfoPark were evacuated.
