3D ‘Titanic’ fails to wow youth

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the film lovers in the city, who had rich 3D experiences from ‘Avatar’ and ‘Dam 999’, the three-dimensional version of ‘Titanic’ did not appear to have created much impact.
The 1997 epic romance-disaster film by James Cameron in the three-dimensional format did not seem a crowd-puller when it was released in the city on Thursday, with most seats lying vacant during the first screening itself. The response from the people who were there to watch the morning show signals that the film could not fulfil their expectations.
Though it was a holiday for many institutions, there were few people inside the theatre and a good chunk of them were youngsters.
Akshay Manzoor, from Vattiyoorkavu, who has completed plus-two, pointed out that the movie was not technically brilliant as it did not reach up to the level of ‘Avatar.’ “If ‘Avatar’ and ‘Titanic’ are to be compared, the latter did not appeal to me. From the creative side, it was not that perfect,” according to him.
Whereas some people pointed out that if the movie was again filmed with the motive of releasing it as 3D, it would have been much better. Fadil Bin Manaf, from Thrissur, who came to watch the movie after attending a function in the city, was of the opinion that, “as the film arrived in the 3D format after some 15 years of its release, we could feel that some elements were lacking. If it is again filmed with the purpose of releasing the 3D version, the cast must be maintained as it is now, with Leo and Kate in the lead. And it is better to watch it with family than seeing it alone,” he said.
Akhil R M, a BAMS student at Government Ayurveda College, said: “It was not worth sitting and watching for three-and-a-half hours. I felt as if I were watching television.”
However, for others, to see the movie in the 3D format itself was so satisfying. “In comparison to the 2D version, it is fine. I was too young while watching the movie in 2D. Therefore, it was a nice experience,” Parvathy V S, an engineering student at PRS College of Engineering and Technology, Neyyattinkara, said.
