20th CPM party congress begins in Kozhikode


Thursday, April 5, 2012: The 20th CPI (M) party congress got off to a colourful start with state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan hoisting the flag at MK Pandhe Nagar here on Wednesday.
Besides 734 delegates, 70 observers and 11 veteran leaders are participating in the congress. The torch was lit at the congress venue (Surjeet-Jyoti Basu Nagar) at Tagore Hall by general secretary Prakash Karat at 7 pm. The congress will conclude on April 9 with a march by 25,000-strong red volunteers and a mass rally.
Party congress will discuss its recent electoral setbacks and the way ahead in an era of coalition politics.
