14,414 students attend Joint Entrance Exam

KOCHI: The IIT-Joint Entrance Examination(JEE)- 2012 held on Sunday went off smoothly in the state with 14,414 candidates attending it in 35 centres across Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Palakkad.   “Questions were solvable. They were neither easy nor tough. I had to apply my mind unlike questions at school level,” said Vipin S, a Plus-Two student of Bhavan’s Adarsha, Kakkanad, who took the exams at Cochin University of Science and Technology.
Though some of the questions were lengthier than IIT-JEE-2011, the examination was okay in general, said a few students. Around 5.06 lakh students wrote the examinations from 1,067 centres across the nation for nearly 10,000 seats in 15 IITs, Indian School of Mines and Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University.
The results of JEE 2012 will be announced on May 18.  From next year, IIT-JEE will be replaced by Indian Science Engineering Eligibility Test (ISEET) as a result of merging IIT-JEE and All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE). It will be held in two phases as main examination and advanced examination in April and May next year, said sources.
