Friday, April 13, 2012: The 10-day annual Padayani festival at Kadammanitta Bhagavathy Temple near here will begin with the ‘Choottuvaipu’ ceremony on April 14.The Choottuvaipu ceremony, where the Melsanthi handing over a lamp lit with the sacred fire inside the sanctum sanctorum to the Padayani teacher (aasaan), will be held at 9.30 p.m, after the Athazhapuja on Tuesday. The Padayani kolam performances will held on all days, after the Athazhapuja, from April 16 to 23.
The Valiya Padayani will be held on April 21 evening. A ceremonial procession from the Bhagavathy temple to the nearby Hrishikesha temple will be held on April 23 afternoon. The Kalamezhuthupattu, which will be held in the evening, will mark the culmination of the festival.
Tantri Suresh Bhattathiripad and Melsanthi K.N. Unnikrishnan Namboodiri will lead the rituals of the Padayani festival.
