No evidence to prove Shaari was sexually exploited: Court


Friday, January 20, 2012: In a major set back to the prosecution in the case related to sexual exploitation of Shari S Nair, Thiruvananthapuram CBI court here said there are no witnesses and medical documents to prove that she was sexually exploited.
The court said that 25 witnesses produced before the court has no relation with the case and only circumstantial evidence is available. The only statement against the accused in the case is by Omanakkutty who has turned approver in the case, the court noted.
The CBI in 2006 had filed chargesheet against nine persons in the sensational sex scandal case before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ernakulam.
The investigating agency had arraigned Omanakutty(47) of Kiliroor, KSRTC bus conductors Praveen(24), Manoj(31) and Prasanth(23, Latha Nair(47) of Kalloopara, Binu alias Kochumon (30) of Nattakom, Somanathan(46), Thayil Venu from Kumali, Abdul Hameed(52) of Devikulam and V R Devadas, Thiruvarpu.
Praveen, the third accused in the Kiliroor case, had recently admitted before the court that he fathered the child born to the victim Shaari.
