Kollam, Alappuzha lead in state school Kalolsavam


Tuesday, January 17, 2012: Soon after the completion of six events at the 52nd state school Kalolsavam held at Thrissur corporation ground, Kollam and Alappuzha districts are leading the point table with 25 points each. Kottayam, Kozhikode and Kasargod are in the second position with 23 points each.
The point status of other districts is as follows: -Ernakulam- 21, Kannur-21, Malappuram- 20, Palakkad- 19.
Kalolsavam was off to a colourful start at the corporation stadium in Thrissur on Monday evening. The Kalolsavam was flagged off by DPI A Shajahan. The ceremonial lamp was lit by veteran singer KJ Yesudas in the absence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Therambil Ramakrishnan MLA, Corporation Mayor IT Paul were among those who attended the function. The festival will be held at 17 venues in Thrissur from January 16 to 22. As many as 10,000 students are expected to take part in 218 competitions.
Contests will be held in the high school (82 events) and higher secondary (98 events) categories. ‘Sanskritosavam’ and ‘Arabic Sahityotsavam’ will have 19 competitions each.
A cultural procession was held at 2 p.m. Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty, Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb, Cooperation Minister C.N. Balakrishnan, and Cultural Affairs Minister K.C
