Audit of defence lands to resume, says A.K Antony


 Wednesday, December 21, 2011: Government today said it has decided to resume the audit of defence lands which will also prepare a data on encroachment on these areas.
In written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, Defence Minister A K Antony said, “It has been decided to resume Audit of defence lands which among others shall cover encroachments also.”
He also tabled a detailed report on recent land scams in the defence ministry — Adarsh Housing Society scam, Kandivili land scam, Pune land scam and Sukna land scam.
“Adarsh Housing Society and Kandivili cases are being investigated by CBI. Action shall be taken on recommendations of the investigation. No defence personnel has been found involved in Pune land case. Suitable action has been taken against army personnel found involved in Sukna land case,” he said.
Replying to a question on molestation cases in army, the Defence Minister accepted that an officer of the rank of Major General was dismissed from the service on complaints of molesting a Captain.
“All cases have been investigated by Courts of Inquiry. The officers found guilty of charges of sexual harassment have been punished under the provisions of Army Act,” Antony said.
Maintaining that there is a zero tolerance for any misconduct of sexual harassment, he said, “Any misconduct of sexual harassment and crime against women in the Army and the army officers and personnel found guilty of misconduct are dealt with promptly as per law.”
