Youth held on murder charge

T'PURAM: The crime branch police arrested a youth in connection with the murder of a 70-year-old woman at Pettah four years ago. Dilshad, 34, of Chakka was arrested on the charge of murdering Ayesha Biwi during a robbery attempt at her home on August 13, 2007. A press release issued by the Crime Branch said the police got the evidence for the investigation from the jeans pants found abandoned at the scene of crime.


The accused was allegedly a drug addict and had tried to destroy the evidence soon after committing the crime. The case was first investigated by the local police and then handed over to the Crime Branch.


The case was later handed over to the Crime Branch CID Hurt and Homicide Wing under the direction of Crime Branch police director Vincent M Paul. The team that cracked the case was led by Crime Branch headquarters Analysis Wing Dy.SP J. Kishore Kumar under the supervision of Crime Branch SP P. Reghunathan.
