VS hits out at Govt over Attappady package

Thiruvananthapuram, Thursday, August 25, 2011: Opposition leader VS Achuthanandan today severaly criticized the state government’s decision not to evict the Suzlon wind mill company from the ecologically-sensitive Attappadi hills.
Speaking to the reporters here on Thursday, VS added that the government was protecting the vested interests by not evicting Suzlon from the tribal land which was illegally used to erect windmills.

During the previous LDF regime, the Congress had vigorously campaigned to evict the windmill owners from tribal land and the party had even sought the intervention of the national leadership, VS said.
Suzlon possesses 645 acres in three villages in this region. Confusion exists over the actual extent of land in the possession of Suzlon in Kottathara village. The tribesmen claim that the company has encroached between 124 and 180 acres, while company documents puts the area at 85.21 acres.
