Ration dealers to get festival allowance

Tuesday, August 23, 2011: All ration dealers would be given Rs 500 as festival allowance during Onam, said Minister for Food and Civil Supplies TM Jacob.
The Minister said that after discussions with representatives of ration dealers here on Tuesday that the commission would be raised from Rs 35 a quintal to Rs 75 a quintal. Commission payment should be made on kilometre basis instead of zone basis.
 
The Minister said that that 14,556 ration dealers in the State would get the bonus which had been a long-standing demand of the dealers. The age limit for pension payments from ration dealers’ welfare fund would be reduced from 65 years to 60 years. The quantum of pension would be increased from Rs.500 to Rs.1, 000 a month. The contribution payable by members of the fund would increase from Rs 50 a month to Rs 100 a month.
He said that steps would be taken to ensure correctness of food grains supplied by wholesales depots to retail dealers. Pumping system would be set up at the wholesale depots for kerosene.
