Ration cards on day of applying: Minister

Kochi: The Kerala government had taken measures to issue ration cards on the day of applying, if there were no technical issues on the applications State Food and Civil Minister T M Jacob said today.

Inaugurating Onam-Ramadan metro people bazaar, he said in case of any technical issues on the applications, ration cards would be issued within four working days.


Mr Jaccob claimed that during the past three months the Civil Supplies Corporation had issued around five lakh ration cards including three lakh pending applications.


Stating that poverty-free Kerala was the object of the UDF government, he said the state-level inauguration of one kg rice for Rs one would be held by Defence Minister A K Antony tomorrow. Under the scheme, the government would distribute 35 kg rice to around six lakh AAY card holders.


Excise Minister K Babu presided over the function.
