Medical reps to strike work nationwide on Aug 17

Saturday, August 13, 2011: The Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives Association of India (FMRAI) has called for a one-day national strike on August 17 to press various demands, including a national drug pricing policy which will help control prices of essential medicines.
Its leaders here claimed the Federation had salespersons from 135 companies as its members. The entry of multinational companies posed a grave threat to survival of Indian medicine companies, the Federation state president Kallara Madhu told press meet here.
He alleged that the Government was turning a blind eye to this issue despite Indian companies and their employees repeatedly asking for protection through policy initiatives.
The unrestricted entry of MNCs also resulted in sharp increase in medicine prices. The strike would highlight the need to control price rise of essential medicines.
