AI flight diverted due to inclement weather

Monday, August 15, 2011: Air India’s Jeddah-Calicut flight was diverted here on Monday morning and the passengers had a bitter experience as they were stranded in the airport for hours.
Since the pilot had gone off after finishing his duty hours, passengers had only two options: either take another mode of transport to Kozhikode or wait for the pilot to return.
The flight had landed in Thruvananthapuram after finding it difficult to land at Kozhikode International Airport due to inclement weather, airport sources said. The Flight AI-963 had 96 passengers onboard and they were to be flown to Kozhikode by 7:30 pm today, sources said here.
Overcast skies and fog also delayed landing of as many as five flights at Kozhikode airport, sources said.
