Heavy Rain Hits Kerala

Heavy rain lashed many parts of the State on Wednesday disrupting traffic and damaging a few houses. The rain that began on Tuesday night strengthened by Wednesday morning causing inconvenience to children and parents on the school re-opening day. Several low-lying areas in the capital city and in other parts of the districts were flooded in the incessant rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Thursday, forecast widespread rain or thundershowers in Kerala during the next two days under the influence of onset and advance of Southwest monsoon over south Arabian sea.

Strong onshore winds from westerly direction speed occasionally reaching 45 to 55 kmph is likely along off Kerala coast and over Lakshadweep area during next 24 hours.

Extensive crop damage have been reported following a landslide near Manjerimala in Malappuram district today.
A house nearby has been completely destroyed in the landslide. No casualties have been reported so far.
