Education minister too gives up PG seat allotted to son

Minister for Education P.K. Abdu Rabb has given up a postgraduate medical seat that his son secured at a private medical college. Rabb’s son, Nihas Naha, had secured admission to a postgraduate seat in paediatrics at Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur.
Naha’s postgraduate seat had landed the Minister in an embarrassing situation, especially as some private medical colleges, including Jubilee Mission, defied the government rules. Rabb said here that he had decided to forgo the seat on moral grounds as he did not want his son to study in a college that defied the government rules.
“As a Minister, I am duty-bound not to do anything that promotes moral turpitude,” he said. However, he said, neither the Indian Union Muslim League nor the government had asked him to forgo his son’s medical seat. “The party did not discuss it. It is my personal matter.”
Rabb said he had done nothing out of the way to secure the postgraduate admission for his son. He said his son had secured admission as the sixth candidate in management quota.
