Vembanad Fish Count on May 26

Wednesday 18 May 2011: The fourth edition of the annual Vembanad Fish Count will be held here on May 26. The event organised to enhance cooperation between various stakeholders, government departments, non-governmental organisations, and academic institutions will be flagged off by environmentalist K.V. Dayal from the Muhamma boat jetty at 6 a.m. on May 26.

The closing ceremony will be held at the VIP Island Pavilion at the Punnamada Finishing Point where Vice-Chancellor of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies B. Madhusoodana Kurup will inaugurate the function at 2 p.m.

Prior to the fish count, a training programme will be organised at St. George Parish Hall near Muhamma boat jetty. Former additional director of Fisheries Department Sanjeev Ghosh will conduct a session on ethical fishing from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

This will be followed by an orientation for volunteers headed by Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies professor K.V. Jayachandran.
