Indian oil tanker ‘Orchid’ caught fire in Kannur

May 08, 2011: An Indian oil tanker ‘Orchid’ caught fire tonight about 40 nautical miles off Kannur, Defense sources said. Three Coast Guard vessels have rushed to the spot to render assistance to the merchant vessel, they said.

Coast Guard vessel ‘Varuna’, which was already at sea, is among the vessels that have been sent to the spot, they said. Two fast patrol vessels from New Mangalore Port have also been dispatched to render assistance, the sources said.
