CM defends trifurcation of local self-government

Friday, May 27, 2011: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today informed that the government wouldn’t reexamine the trifurcation of the department of local self-government. Speaking to the reporters here on Friday, Chandy said that the trifurcation was done to make governance more effective.
Chandy was responding to Industries Minister PK Kunhalikutty’s remarks that the chief minister could review the trifurcation if any problem cropped up in the future. “A cabinet sub-committee headed by CM has been set up to co-ordinate the three departments. It could review implementation of programmes coming under these departments,” he said.
“The feedback we received from experts and officials is that the schemes under these departments could be implemented more effectively by their division. We don’t expect any problem to arise out of it,” Kunhalikutty told reporters here. Local self government was a single department under one minister during the LDF rule
